## Callicoon in a Paragraph
Callicoon sits on a bend in the Delaware River at the western edge of Sullivan County, a one-main-street town with a turn-of-the-century feel, the 1948 Callicoon Theater (the oldest continuously-running cinema in the county), Seminary Hill's orchard-and-cidery a mile up the hill, and a handful of restaurants and shops that keep weekends full from May through October and active, if quieter, through the winter.
The town is not trying to be Woodstock. That is the point of it. Callicoon is a slow-Saturday town.
## Where to Buy
Callicoon itself does not have a licensed cannabis dispensary. The closest shop is [The Green House](/dispensary/the-green-house-000370) in Jeffersonville, about 15 minutes east on Rt 52. A bit further: [GOLD LEAF](/dispensary/gold-leaf-000385) and [Joint Jungle](/dispensary/joint-jungle-000148) in Liberty (25 minutes), and [Amber Jane](/dispensary/amber-jane-000049) in White Lake (35 minutes).
If you are coming up the Quickway (Rt 17 / I-86), stopping in Liberty on the way in is the easier routing. If you are already staying in Callicoon, the Jeffersonville run is 30 minutes round trip.
## A Slow Weekend Template
### Friday Evening
Arrive, check in, dinner at one of the Main Street restaurants, the Heron has been the town's anchor kitchen for over a decade; Matthew's has become the reliable diner-style evening option. A movie at the Callicoon Theater if the schedule lines up. Back to the rental, bring an edible if the cabin permits it (most Callicoon-area STRs allow tinctures and edibles indoors, vapes on the porch; smoke indoors is generally out).
### Saturday
Morning coffee at the Central House, one of the oldest continuously-operating hotels in Sullivan County. Drive up to Seminary Hill, a working apple orchard and hard-cidery with a tasting room overlooking the Delaware Valley. Not a cannabis venue, but the kind of farm-to-glass Sullivan County operation that fits the slow-weekend tone.
Afternoon on the river. Callicoon's put-in is right at the town, the Upper Delaware is a canoe-and-float river, not a whitewater one. Delaware River Outfitters and a few other operators do rentals. **No consumption on the water**; the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River corridor is federally administered, which puts it under the federal cannabis prohibition.
Back to town for dinner, a walk up Lower Main. The town is small enough to walk end to end in ten minutes.
### Sunday
A slower morning. The Callicoon Farmers' Market runs Sundays from late spring through fall on the lawn next to the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, a small but well-curated market. Breakfast at the Heron or at one of the coffee spots. Head home when you feel like it.
## Cannabis at the Cabin
Most Callicoon-area rentals are on the surrounding hills, not in town, Jeffersonville, Hortonville, North Branch, Long Eddy. If you've booked a rental:
- **Read the listing.** Most allow tinctures, edibles, and outdoor vape use. Most prohibit indoor smoke.
- **Keep it off the river.** The Upper Delaware is federal land.
- **Keep it off state land.** Any of the state-forest parcels around Sullivan County fall under New York's no-consumption-on-state-land rule. **New York state law prohibits cannabis consumption on state-owned land and in public spaces.**
- **Start low, go slow** on edibles, especially if you have a morning drive out Sunday.

## The Callicoon Theater
Worth its own paragraph. The theater has been showing movies continuously since 1948. Current programming leans art-house and second-run; weekends usually feature Friday and Saturday evening shows, matinees on Sunday. Check their schedule before you drive in. The lobby's 1940s Art Deco is original.
## What About Narrowsburg?
Narrowsburg is 15 minutes downriver and is the region's other small-town cultural hub, DVAA and the Tusten Theatre run a year-round program. Many Callicoon weekends include a Narrowsburg stop and vice versa. See our [Narrowsburg DVAA arts weekend](/blog/narrowsburg-dvaa-cannabis-arts-weekend) for a parallel guide.
