Tinker Street, Byrdcliffe’s 120-year colony, and the music legacy that won’t quit.
Woodstock is the best-known name in the Catskills and arguably the most misunderstood — the famous 1969 festival actually happened 50 miles south in Bethel, but the town has been an artist colony since Byrdcliffe was founded in 1902, and it’s still where the creative density of the region concentrates. Tinker Street carries galleries, bookstores, Colony, and HERbal Woodstock, the town’s cannabis dispensary. The village green, WAAM, Byrdcliffe, and Maverick Concerts are all walking distance or close to it.
