Andes is the kind of Catskills town that looks unchanged for a century until you walk into the Andes Hotel and find the dining room full at 8pm on a Saturday. Hawk + Hive runs a contemporary art program out of the renovated 1850s general store. The town sits on Rt 28 between Margaretville and Delhi, halfway between the Pepacton Reservoir and the Bovina hills, and serves as the editorial anchor for the western Catskills weekend that doesn’t require Belleayre or Woodstock to be the destination.
