The town of Catskill (not the mountain range) is the eastern-Greene-County anchor — where Main Street’s 19th-century storefronts run down to the Hudson at the foot of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. An arts-and-dining revival has added galleries, Avalon Lounge, Bridge Street Theatre, and Bud’s Dispensary on West Bridge Street to what used to be a quiet river town. From here, 23A climbs west into the heart of the mountains — the gateway the Hudson River School painters used.
